The Wooden Shield is a medium shield in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Vertically elongated wooden shield. Decorated with a white dragon.

Wood shields are lighter then metal shields, but with lower physical damage reduction, and reduced shield stability.

Availability

The Wooden Shield can be found early on in Undead Burg, at the tower with the first crossbow wielding Hollow Soldier to the right of the first bonfire; there is a door that can be opened at the base of the tower, leading to a corpse with the Wooden Shield.

Characteristics

The Wooden Shield is an ultra-light Medium Sheild with surprisingly good Physical and Lightning damage absorption. It does; however, have extremely low Fire damage absorption. Only the Large Leather Shield and Heater Shield are comparable in damage reduction to weight ratio. Although the Wooden Shield's Stability isn't designed for late game bosses, the Wooden Shield is one of the lightest shields in the game, making it useful for characters that wish to remain mobile. The shield has medium deflection and fast parry speed. When upgraded to crystal the durability is 16.

Resistance Defense

Along with Physical and Elemental damage reduction, weapons also have hidden stats that reduce the amount of status build-up while blocking.

Attack	Description

Two-handed Strong Attack	Holds shield up and runs forward, then slams it down at the end. Additional inputs yield a horizontal swing.*
Jump Attack	Slams shield into the ground.
