The Umbral Dagger is a dagger in Dark Souls II: Crown of the Old Iron King.
In-Game Description
- A sharp dagger.
- Crafted to facilitate assassinations with a focused backstab. One true strike with this blade, and your work will be done.
Availability[]
- Drop from Fume Sorcerers in Brume Tower and the Iron Passage.
Characteristics[]
As it is mentioned in the description, the Umbral Dagger is a dagger made for backstabs, possibly being the dagger with the highest backstab modifier in the game.
Interestingly, this weapon benefits almost nothing from its upgrade as the damage is raised at a maximum of 17 damage. This means that upgrading this weapon is not worth going through the trouble and that it is an amazing weapon from the moment it is picked up.
Unfortunately this weapon cannot be infused (as it would probably be too powerful) but can be buffed.
Umbral Dagger, when using power stance attacks or guard breaks (as they are copied from Mytha's Bent Blade), has the distinction of being one of the only two weapons in the game able to inflict the Toxic status, which does significantly higher damage than poison with the trade off of having fewer means to build up the status. The other sources of Toxic are Mytha's Bent Blade's attacks, Dung Pie and Toxic Mist. Sanctum Soldier Gauntlet and the Crest of the Rat do not increase toxic buildup.
Relevant attacks deal a flat 12% Toxic buildup in the right hand and 10.8% in the left hand before poison defenses.
Notes[]
- Upgrading this weapon will have very negligible results in backstabs and riposte's damage output, as such, upgrading is neither recommended or necessary.
- This dagger has the highest strength requirement out of all the daggers.
