Toxic Mist is a pyromancy in Dark Souls II.
In-Game Description
- A fringe pyromancy of unknown origin.
Creates a powerful cloud of poison mist.
- The poison gradually erodes the target's body, inflicting damage all the while.
Whoever created this spell did not believe his enemies deserved a swift death.
Availability[]
Acquired from Straid of Olaphis in exchange for Royal Rat Vanguard Soul and 1,500 souls.
Effect[]
Much like Poison Mist, casting Toxic Mist releases a large, hazardous cloud in front of the caster. However, Toxic Mist has more casts per slot and has a much higher damage potential.
While, statistically, Toxic Mist is superior to Poison Mist, it is a high-risk/high-reward to use. This is due to the fact that there are only two sources of Toxic that the player can use, one being Toxic Mist, a relatively slow casting pyromancy, and the other being a dagger that is lackluster outside of its Toxic build-up. As such, if the Toxic isn't inflicted, then it's a waste of a spell slot. In contrast, Poison Mist can stack with poison arrows, poison throwing knives, or poison weapons in general, to put pressure on opponents. As such, it is recommended to use Toxic Mist in small areas or on slow opponents.
Although its intended purpose is somewhat limited in PvP, Toxic Mist can still be great for area denial, and as a means of hiding the caster's follow up attacks. In PvE, it is far more effective however, as enemies don't actively try to avoid the mist. This helps with racking up damage on sturdier foes, such as the Smelter Demon, who are generally susceptible to poisons.
Poison and Toxic can be applied at the same time on the same target. They do not cancel each other out, but rather increase the rate of health degeneration.
Trivia[]
This spell is cast with a forward gesture of the hand holding the Pyromancy Flame. This is in contrast to the casting animation in Dark Souls and Dark Souls III, where it is exhaled from the caster's mouth.
