The Target Shield is a small shield in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Small round metal shield. Four protrusions used to parry attacks.

Small shields are always less stable, but landing critical hits after parry is easier. This shield is specialized for parrying.

Availability

The Target Shield is the starting shield for the Thief class. It can also be found on a body inside a small room in Lower Undead Burg just before the Capra Demon and as an uncommon drop from the Hollow Thieves.

Characteristics

The Target Shield is weak defensively but has a special parry animation that increases the parry window, making it highly effective against parriable enemies. It has more stability than the Buckler but also weighs slightly more.

It is one of only four shields that has a Dexterity requirement, the other three being the Pierce Shield, the Spiked Shield and the Buckler. This shield has a light deflection and when upgraded to crystal its durability is 15.

Resistance Defense

Along with Physical and Elemental damage reduction, weapons also have hidden stats that reduce the amount of status build-up while blocking.

Attack	Description

Two-handed Strong Attack	Holds shield up and runs forward, then slams it down at the end. Additional inputs yield a horizontal swing.*

Trivia

• The Target Shield is most likely modeled after the dhal, which was commonly used in India and Persia. Most of these shields had four bosses (or protusions) on the exterior.
