Sunlight Spear is a Miracle in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Miracle born from the fading soul of Gwyn.
Hurl sunlight spear.
In the war that marked the dawn of the Age of Fire. Gwyn wielded these rays of sunlight, which remain fierce even as they fade.

Availability

Reward for offering the soul of Gwyn to the statue at the Sunlight Altar in the Undead Parish.

Even though this means that most players may only obtain the Sunlight Spear in NG+, it is possible to obtain this miracle in NG if the player is given Gwyn's soul by a phantom.

Sunlight Spear may only be obtained once per character, regardless of playthrough.

General information

Sunlight Spear requires the user to be a member of the Warrior of Sunlight covenant to cast. At first glance, it appears identical to Great Lightning Spear, save for its coloration and number of casts. Like the other lightning spear variants, it also causes a large cascade of electrical energy if thrown into the water, potentially hitting multiple foes.

It does 50% more damage than Great Lightning Spear (when first obtained), and does outstanding Poise damage; making it more likely that an opponent will be knocked down if it hits.

Overview

Although Sunlight Spear deals more damage than Great Lightning Spear, it comes with half the casts while occupying two slots. In addition to this, Sunlight Spear requires 50 Faith to use, reducing its accessibility in comparison to other Lightning Spear varieties, such as Great Lightning Spear, which requires only 30 Faith, and deals more immediate damage.

However, Sunlight Spear deals more damage per second on targets, making it useful for taking out tougher and deadlier enemies, and its knockback/knockdown power can be of great advantage to the user.
