The Sun Sword is a straight sword in Dark Souls II.

In-Game Description

A well-forged long sword.
Of unknown origin, and exhibiting no special power, but sturdily crafted.
Perhaps it does not live up to its name, but nevertheless, merely wielding this sword seems to cause warmth to well up within one's bosom.

The weapon is recieved upon reaching rank two in the Heirs of the Sun covenant, by offering 20 Sunlight Medals.

The Sun Sword possesses amazing scaling across strength and dexterity. This makes it an exceptional choice for quality builds and allows the weapon to perform admirably even at base level, assuming the player can use the stat scaling to the fullest. This means that the sword will outdamage other straight swords with a dedicated quality build.

However, the weapon falters if the player has low strength and dexterity. It also synergizes poorly with infusions, as the weapon's physical scaling is drastically reduced while its elemental scaling is similar to the average straight sword, and its base damage remains low.

Consumable weapon buffs such as Gold Pine Resin and Rotten Pine Resin make excellent complements for this weapon. Spells such as Sunlight Blade, Crystal Magic Weapon, and Sacred Oath, can also be used to offset its otherwise poor synergy with quality/faith and quality/intelligence builds.

Attack Description
Weak Attack
Right to left slash, at a slight downwards diagonal angle. Further input yields a similar, left to right slash.
Strong Attack
Forward thrusting attack, longer reach than 2h but weaker.
Weak Attack
Similar to 1h, but stronger at the cost of more stamina.
Strong Attack
Strong right to left slash with some startup and ending lag.
Jump Attack Leaping downward smash.
Running Attack A quick right to left horizontal slash.
Rolling Attack A quick thrust.
Rolling Attack
Same as 1h roll, but slower and stronger.
Kick A backhand smash with the hilt of the sword.
Weak Attack
Same as right hand weak, but reversed.
Strong Attack
Same thrusts as right hand strong attack.

Upgrades with regular titanite; reinforcing the weapon to +10 will improve the Strength and Dexterity scaling, going from B to A.

  • As with most covenant rewards, it's only possible to obtain one Sun Sword per character. The only way to obtain additional Sun Swords is by having another player drop theirs.
  • When optimized, the Sun Sword can reach an attack rating that rivals greatswords, allowing it to deal massive damage compared to other straight swords.

  • The description of the Sun Sword alludes to the description of Sunlight Medals.
