Strength is a stat in Dark Souls.

Description[]

Required to wield the majority of weapons. Larger, heavier weapons require much more of an investment in strength to wield. Strength is also a weapon damage modifier, increasing damage output for weapons that scale with strength.

Notes[]

  • Holding a weapon two-handed increases the user's strength by 50%. This will increase the weapon's damage output based on its strength scaling, and also allows weapons to be used with less strength than if they were one-handed.
    • Bows do not benefit from two-handing for the purposes of requirements or scaling.
  • Apart from extra damage due to bonus strength scaling, two-handing a weapon also changes its moveset to use two-handed moves, which tend to have higher damage modifiers at the cost of increased stamina cost and lowered attack speed, although some large weapons actually benefit from increased attack speed. This means that two-handing will increase damage even for weapons which do not have strength scaling, such as the Moonlight Butterfly Horn, Drake Sword, or most Katanas.
    • A caveat to this is that attacks that are the same when used in either one or two hands, such as Backstabs and Ripostes or firing Crossbows, only benefit from strength scaling. As such, two-handing weapons that have no scaling will impart no extra damage when performing these kinds of attacks.
  • The weapon with the highest strength requirement, Smough's Hammer, requires 58 strength to be wielded in one hand.

Weapon Scaling[]
