Stomp is a skill in Dark Souls III.
In-Game Description
- Use one's weight to lunge forward with a low stance and increased poise, and follow with strong attack for an upward slash.
Description[]
Upon activating the skill, the player gains almost instant Hyper Armor and refreshed Poise health, and lunges down and forward while bringing the sword to their left. Inputting a strong attack while in this lunge animation will bring the sword into an upward arc that ends behind the player, inflicting 1.85 times the weapon's Attack Rating as damage and 2.1 times the weapon's base Poise damage to any enemies in front of the player, while knocking them skyward.
The Bastard Sword and Dark Sword variants of Stomp gain 70 Poise health, while the ultra greatswords gain 100 Poise health. As well, the Dark Sword's Stomp inflicts 1.8 times the weapon's Attack Rating as damage and 2.2 times its base Poise damage.
Usage[]
Single player[]
The upward variation of Stomp is best used in situations where the player wants to inflict tremendous focused damage on a single target while also disabling them for more breathing space. It is best used against enemies that can be affected by the upward launch, as those enemies must spend additional time getting back up, allowing the player to reset an encounter at an advantage.
Online gameplay[]
As with other variations of Stomp, it is best used when the wielder needs to trade against a weapon of equal or greater size and come out on top. It is most effective when the enemy player is locked in an attack animation and is committed to that attack, as the upward slash will deal tremendous damage and knock them into the air, giving the wielder additional time to turn the tables by recovering health with an Estus Flask, activate a buff, throw a Lloyd's Talisman at them to keep them at low health once they recover, or simply back off to reset the encounter.
Be wary about attempting to perform this skill if the enemy is free to act, as they can simply roll through the upward swing and punish you during recovery frames, particularly with a backstab.
