Stamina is a character stat in Dark Souls that affects how long and frequently physical actions, such as attacking, blocking, and dashing, can be performed. Stamina acts as a resource that depletes whenever the player performs an action, and recovers automatically after a brief pause. The player's stamina is displayed as a green bar below the red health bar.

Modifiers[]

The player's maximum stamina can be raised by increasing the endurance stat while leveling up, until reaching 160 stamina at 40 endurance. Increasing endurance past 40 does not further affect the maximum stamina.

The only other way to raise the maximum stamina is equipping the Ring of Favor and Protection, which raises maximum stamina by 20%. By having both 40 endurance and the Ring of Favor and Protection equipped, the player's maximum stamina can be raised to a total of 192 points.

Recovery[]

Stamina has a base recovery rate of 45 points per second. The recovery rate can be increased via the following items:

  • Equipping the Mask of the Child increases the stamina recovery rate by 10 points per second.
  • Equipping the Grass Crest Shield increases the stamina recovery rate by 10 points per second.
  • Equipping the Cloranthy Ring increases the stamina recovery rate by 20 points per second.
  • Casting Power Within increases the stamina recovery rate by 30 points per second, for 100 seconds.
  • Consuming a Green Blossom increases the stamina recovery rate by 40 points per second, for 60 seconds.

Green Blossoms and Power Within do not stack, but all other effects will stack with each other.

The following actions and effects negatively affect the player's stamina recovery:

  • Blocking reduces the stamina recovery rate by 80%.
  • Climbing a ladder reduces the stamina recovery rate by 80%.
  • Exceeding 50% equipment load reduces the stamina recovery rate by 20%.
  • Exceeding 100% equipment load reduces the stamina recovery rate by 30%.
  • Using the Dragon Head Stone's breath attack reduces the stamina recovery rate by 50 points per second.
  • Being affected by any form of the toxic effect reduces the stamina recovery rate by 15 points per second.
  • Equipping certain pieces of heavy armor reduces the stamina recovery rate by 1 or 2 points per second.

Armor effect on stamina recovery[]

All armor items that reduce the stamina recovery rate will reduce it by 1 point per second, with the exception of a few heavier chest pieces that reduce it by 2 points per second. Armor upgrade level has no impact on stamina hindrance. The following table lists all armor pieces with a negative effect.
