The Spear is an accessible weapon thanks to its low stat requirements and weight. This coupled with its low stamina usage, compared to other spears, makes it an excellent early-game weapon. The low stamina usage also lets it excel when attacking from behind a shield, as the saved stamina can instead be used to maintain one's guard. Furthermore, it also means the Spear has the potential to kill enemies in fewer combos than heavier spears.
These strengths come at the cost of the spear being considerably shorter than other spears found near the start of the game. It also has a less versatile moveset than the Partizan.
Contrary to what its low weight, stamina usage, and requirements may imply, the Spear's damage is similar to that of other early spears, its primary drawback being its low reach.

The red tassel at the end of the spear's shaft exhibits cloth physics, similar to capes and robes. It also receives the same singed effect as armor when the wielder is a Host of Embers.
