Sorcery is a spell type in Dark Souls II.

General information[]

Sorcery is cast through staves as a medium and scale with Intelligence.

Some non-staff weapons exist which can be used to cast sorcery as well, such as the Blue Flame and Pilgrim's Spontoon.

Most sorceries can be purchased from various merchants throughout Drangleic. Some sorceries, however, can be found as lootable items on corpses and in chests. Sorcery provides the user with a mix of augmentation and utility, while still giving a wide variety of fully offensive spells which exclusively deal magic damage. The damage dealt by sorceries is influenced by the Magic Attack Bonus stat. Magic bonus is raised with Intelligence.

Sorceries typically work better on heavy armored enemies than light armored enemies such as Retainers. There are some exceptions to this, however, such as enemies that wear the Havel's Armor, but on the whole this serves as a good rule of thumb. Also, most enemies found in the DLCs have higher elemental resistances than enemies found in the core game.
