The Sorcerer is one of the classes in Dark Souls 3.
It is an Intelligence-focused starting class that also has good Attunement and decent Dexterity. It is the only class that starts with offensive Sorceries.
The two starting spells, Soul Arrow and Heavy Soul Arrow, are both roughly equally effective damage-wise for the Focus Points spent but the Heavy version is slower to cast and more of a waste if it misses, making it more effective for preliminary ambush attacks or slow enemies/bosses. While both of these spells are fairly cheap they still have far fewer casts than in previous games, and at least in the beginning will have to be heavily supplemented with a weapon. Additionally, their damage is boosted by 12% by the Young Dragon Ring.
The starting catalyst, the Sorcerer's Staff, actually holds up fairly well at high levels of Intelligence even if it is never really the best and won't actually start scaling until the user's Intelligence is at least 19. Its Weapon Art Steady Chant will buff the damage of all Sorceries by 10% for 15 seconds, making it a useful thing to use just before fighting a strong enemy such as a boss.
The starting Mail Breaker is a pretty weak weapon and is suitable mostly for Ripostes and Backstabs, especially since the Weapon Art Shield Splitter is the user's only notable help against shields.
Having a Leather Shield probably won't help much with survivability due to it having the poor damage blocking and low Stability characteristic of a Small Shield, though it does have the advantage of a Small Shield's improved Parry skill. As such it is best ignored unless planning to use that parry. For those actually wishing to block, the Large Leather Shield from the Shrine Handmaid can be wielded with one more point in Strength or the even stronger Silver Eagle Kite Shield can be found in High Wall of Lothric and wielded with 4 more Strength.
While the Sorcerer's Set has bad physical defences it has quite good elemental defences and surprisingly high Curse resistance.
Those wishing to get a more usable weapon can wield either the Shortsword with one more point in Strength or the Scimitar with one more point in Dexterity, both buyable from the Shrine Handmaid.
Sorcery trainers can be found in Undead Settlement and Road of Sacrifices for further development as a spellcaster. Additionally, the Sage's Coal in the nearby Farron Keep allows for the Infusion of weapons with Crystal Gems to let them scale of Intelligence.
