For the Dark Souls variant, see Sniper Crossbow.

The Sniper Crossbow is a crossbow in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

Long-range heavy crossbow used by Carim snipers.
Its lengthy base makes aiming difficult, and accurate usage requires a trained, dexterous hand.
Skill: Tackle
Lunge into a shoulder tackle, pushing back enemies to create distance.

AvailabilityEdit

Found in Lothric Castle, on a corpse on a small tower guarded by a Hollow Soldier that throws Undead Hunter Charms, before reaching the Dragon Barracks bonfire. To reach it, the player must drop into the moat before the Lothric Wyverns and follow the path to the right, defeating several Hollow Assassins and a Winged Knight in order to reach it.

CharacteristicsEdit

Greatly improved over its Dark Souls cousin, the Sniper Crossbow allows players to take aim and accurately deal damage to enemies over long distances. It possesses a range only slightly less than that of the Black Bow of Pharis, and like the Black Bow its range can be augmented through equipping the Hawk Ring and Sniper Bolts in order to maximize shot distance and minimize damage falloff.

Like all other crossbows, the Sniper Crossbow lacks any scaling in any category. This means that even with only small investments in Strength and Dexterity, it is possible to inflict respectable damage at long range. When two-handed, the Sniper Crossbow requires only 12 Strength and 16 Dexterity to be operated, meaning that it can be handy on caster builds that cannot afford to invest many points into physical damage stats.

However, the Sniper Crossbow also comes with critical drawbacks. It is tied for being the heaviest crossbow in the game, alongside the Avelyn and Repeating Crossbow, both of which excel at short ranges rather than long. As well, it has an increased delay before firing a shot, alongside the loading time that all crossbows have, greatly decreasing its firing rate. This second drawback in particular makes it difficult to perform "snap shots" with the weapon, as each shot must be further readied in advance before a bolt can be loosed. These factors make the Sniper Crossbow a poor weapon for engaging enemies at lock-on range.
