Smouldering Ghrus are enemies in Dark Souls III.
Description[]
Almost identical to their lesser brethren from the Farron Keep, these Ghrus are stronger and some of them are able to inflict Toxic status with their attacks. They smolder in a way similar to a player character who is currently in Host of Embers mode.
Location[]
Smouldering Ghrus conform the main opposing force throughout the Smouldering Lake.
Strategy[]
Smouldering Ghrus have higher health, deal more damage, and seem to have a more aggressive attack patterns. Apart from these differences, they are almost identical to their surface counterparts and similar tactics should be applied.
Special care should be taken when dealing with Ghrus wielding spears, as they can perform a shield bash that drains a heavy amount of stamina and which may break the player's guard easily, or they may perform their barrage attack, where they swing their weapon in a frenzied state while advancing menacingly. Retreat and counterattack as the Ghru swings its spear for the fifth time.

Notes[]
- Though the spear versions drop rotshields, their shields themselves are actually a grey colored metal with a spiderweb shape and design over the surface. These unique shields cannot be obtained, however.
- The shaman ghru can blow out a cloud of toxic mist, instead of the poison mist their surface counterparts do. Since the toxic effect is harder to cure than its poison counterpart, it is best to avoid this mist at all costs. It also makes it possible to be effected by both poison and toxic: the breath spell of the shamans and the poison of the weapons of his fellow melee-oriented ghrus.
- All variants except the feral can be parried, riposted and backstabbed.
