Shiva's Bodyguard is a character in Dark Souls. He is a very minor character and will only appear along with Shiva of the East, after the player joins the Forest Hunter covenant. Killing him is the only way to obtain the Dark Wood Grain Ring, but doing so will result in a betrayal.

Location[]

Darkroot Garden, next to the ruined structure Alvina sits in.
Blighttown, at the bottom of the waterwheel shortcut to the Valley of the Drakes, behind the wooden wall Shiva is leaning on.

Plot[]

He is the companion and guard to Shiva, though he plays no apparent role in the plot and his real name is unknown. If players attempt to speak to him, he will remain silent. An amused Shiva curiously congratulates the player afterwards.

Lore[]

Because of his armor, the Shadow Set, Shiva's Bodyguard is likely a "spook" (involved in espionage) from an Eastern Land.^[1] However, rather than wielding the Claw, the preferred weapon of the spooks,^[2] he wields the Uchigatana.
