The Sacred Flame is a pyromancy in Dark Souls III.
In-Game Description
- Pyromancy taught among savages. Flame burrows inside foes and ignites.
- Originally used in a ceremony for cleansing sacrificial impurities, thereby lending the spell its name.
- As barbaric as it seems, this may in fact be quite fitting for the savage pyromancers who consider themselves servants of the divine.
Availability[]
Found inside a lava pool in the Smouldering Lake. Make way through the level until reaching the lowermost floor, past the area with several Basilisks and where Knight Slayer Tsorig attacks. The Sacred Flame lies on the left wall among the lava, the other item being an Ember.
Effect[]
The caster conjures a flame in their catalyst hand, then lunges forward in a grabbing motion. If it successfully connects with a valid target, it will place them in a riposte-like state, where the caster is granted invulnerability frames for the duration of the attack animation.
The caster thrusts the flame into the target, inflicting 0.3 times the Attack Rating of the catalyst as Fire damage. The flame then burns the target for 9 more instances of damage, each inflicting 0.1 times the Attack Rating of the catalyst as Fire damage. Finally, the flame explodes, knocking the target down and inflicting a critical amount of damage. The standard Pyromancy Flame will inflict 2.3 times the Attack Rating of the catalyst as critical damage, the Pyromancer's Parting Flame will inflict 2.5 times the Attack Rating of the catalyst for an increase of 9% in damage over the standard Pyromancy Flame (while not inflicting the bonus Combustion damage), and the Demon's Scar will inflict 20% more damage for a 2.76 multiplier. The White Hair Talisman inflicts its physical component as Thrust damage, as well as its Fire component, both using the 2.3 multiplier.
If a non-valid target is hit by the spell (one that cannot be placed into a riposte state), they will instead take two smaller instances of damage instead. Attempting to hit a valid target but failing due to terrain elevation differences will result in only dealing the initial grab damage.
How to obtain[]
In order to survive the trip inside the lava, there are many strategies that can be followed and even combined before venturing inside. The main idea is to slow down the loss of HP, allowing the player to heal up and advance a bit further, repeating the process as many times as necessary until they have successfully obtained the item.
The following strategies will help mitigate the damage incurred by the lava:
- Wear all four individual armor pieces that each provide the best Fire resistance possible.
- Make sure the character is a Host of Embers in order to have a larger HP pool, thus having more time and better chances to survive between heals.
- Cast Flash Sweat.
- Cast Bountiful Light or other equivalent.
- Consume a Red Bug Pellet.
- Equip rings that provide useful effects, like:
- Equip gear that provide HP regeneration, like the Sun Princess Ring, a Blessed weapon and Ancient Dragon Greatshield.
Notes[]
- Despite the animation and invulnerability frames, this spell does not benefit from critical-boosting rings, such as Hornet Ring, but will proc Aldrich's Ruby and Sapphire at the end of the animation.
