Purging Monument - 13
Main article: The Ringed City (location)

The Purging Monument (解呪の碑, Kaishu no Ishibumi, Monument of the Absolution of the Curse) is a location in Dark Souls III: The Ringed City.

It is a small, separated area in The Ringed City, home to a rather unnerving "sculpture" conformed by what appears to be a mass of flesh and bones, perhaps the remains of innumerable Hollows which apparently have filled up and poured out from an old well.

Its access is linked to the "show your humanity" riddle and consists of an area with a few, albeit powerful enemies, a bridge, and the monument itself.

Access[]

Purging Monument - 03

A player under the Chameleon spell in order to gain access to the area with the monument.

Finding access to the Purging Monument is not so obvious at first and requires the player to solve the "show your humanity" riddle. The riddle itself is located near the Ringed City Streets bonfire, in the section unlocked as a shortcut. The solution consists in transforming oneself into a Humanity Phantom (through the use of the Chameleon sorcery or a Young White Branch) (can only be done while standing in the water) and approach the entrance to this area. Doing so will trigger a ladder to descend, granting access.

Inside, two Ringed Knights and one Judicator Giant can be encountered. Near the giant are stairs going down. Once at the bottom of the stairs, fall on the right and cross the bridge to get to the monument.

Services[]

Purging Monument - 14

The Purging Monument provides a number of services to the player depending on their current status in a similar way as Velka's statue does in the Undead Settlement:

  • Request Absolution:
Allows the player to be absolved from their sins. If they have not sinned, a message will appear telling them so.
  • Request Dissolution:
Allows the player to reverse Hollowing. If they are not currently Hollow, a message will appear telling them so.
    Cost: 100×SL
  • Reinstate the King's decree:
This option will only appear if Judicator Argo and Halflight have already been defeated, allowing the player to revive and face them once again.
    Cost: 500×SL

Questline[]

Amnesiac Lapp makes the first mention of this monument's existence and tells the Ashen One how he has been running in circles searching for it throughout the swamp without success, his intentions being to cure himself from his Hollowing in the hopes of regaining his memory, who he was, and what was his real name in his past life.

The player can then embark on a mission of finding the monument and return to Lapp to inform him of its location, progressing with this through his questline.
