The Prisoner's Tatters is a chest armor piece in Dark Souls II. It is part of the Prisoner's Set.

In-Game Description

Rags worn by imprisoned Hollows. This appears to have been worn on the body.
Judging by its looks and apparent virtues, this really is no more than a tattered scrap of cloth. It still carries the stench of a Hollow.
Effect: Raises item discovery.

Each piece can be dropped by various enemies:

The Prisoner's Tatters provide minimal defense and despite its low weight is still an inefficient piece of armor, meaning it is outperformed by most chest pieces. However, it is the only chest piece in the game that raises item discovery. Due to this effect, it can be considered a high risk, high reward item that can be used to optimize item discovery for farming purposes at the cost of taking significantly more damage.

Due to the significant loss of defence, farming difficult enemies may be faster in the long term to use a conventional chest piece instead of the Prisoner's Tatters, due to reduced risk of deaths wasting time and the ability to fight more recklessly for faster farming runs.
