Characteristics[]

The Pike is the archetype of its weapon class, possessing all-around well-balanced characteristics. Compared to spears, it has longer reach and superior damage at the cost of increased weight and a slower attack speed. As such, it is more ideal for calculated and deliberate attacks against foes, requiring patience from its wielder.

Compared to its immediate competitor, the Lothric Knight Long Spear, the Pike is lacking in various aspects. It requires more Strength to wield, though this is counterbalanced by its relatively low Dexterity wielding requirement and its lighter weight. It also generally does less damage at equal stat distribution, both for physical and elemental infusions, only truly outperforming the Long Spear when infused with a Heavy Gem, although in this respect it is generally outclassed by its cousin the Greatlance as a Strength weapon. Additionally, it does not provide a Poise bonus when wielded, making it less effective for builds that want to utilize Hyper Armor.

However, this weapon's niche is that its overall wielding requirements are very lenient. The Lothric Knight Long Spear, while better overall, has an unconventionally high Dexterity wielding requirement, making it difficult to put on builds that do not prioritize that stat. In fact, the Long Spear has among the highest Dexterity wielding requirement of all infusable weapons, and most elemental infusion builds will often stop at 18 Dexterity in order to wield weapons like the Astora Greatsword, Gotthard Twinswords, Great Corvian Scythe and Lothric Knight Sword. This means that for builds that wish to limit their Strength and Dexterity investment, the Pike is an economical choice for a weapon of its class.
