Description[]
When activated, the wielder gains immediate Hyper Armor for a period of time. For the first 1.5 seconds absorption is increased by 45%, then for an additional 0.5 seconds the absorption bonus is reduced to 15%. Any weak attacks inflicted on the wielder during the casting animation will also rebound, causing the enemy to take Instability damage if they are attacked while recoiling.
The skill lasts for six seconds for Great Hammers, and four seconds for the rest. As well, the Great Hammer version of this skill creates a shockwave around the wielder that will temporarily stagger nearby foes.
Usage[]
Single player[]
This skill is useful in that it essentially grants the player a state of Poise similar to its Dark Souls counterpart. It provides immense survivability, allowing the wielder to perform actions without fear of being interrupted; this is not limited to simply attacking, but also to running and to access one's Estus Flask. However, while the absorption increase is quite formidable, it does not make the wielder invulnerable, so care must be taken not to over-rely on the defensive buff for survivability.
The skill can also be used to quickly traverse certain environmental hazards, such as fire.
Online gameplay[]
In PvP, this skill can be used to reliably win trades against virtually any weapon, as the Hyper Armor and absorption increase is guaranteed to withstand at least one attack regardless of damage. Its casting speed also allows it to be used a reactive defense. However, be wary of using this skill against smart opponents, as they can simply attack once and then avoid engaging for the duration of the buff, making it little more use than taking less damage from one attack at the cost of FP. As well, the duration of the buff must be taken into consideration, as over-committing can leave one open to easy retaliation once the buff expires.
