Orbeck of Vinheim is a character in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

Once an assassin for hire, a sorcerer only in name, exiled from the Dragon School of Vinheim after turning Undead, on a journey to explore the depths of sorcery.

Plot

Orbeck is initially located studying sorcery scrolls on the second floor of the ruined keep in the Road of Sacrifices. He then moves to the Firelink Shrine where he can teach the Ashen One numerous spells. He can be given different scrolls to increase the number of spells he teaches. Once he has taught all his spells and Lorian, Elder Prince and Lothric, Younger Prince have been defeated his corpse can be found in the Grand Archives along with his ashes.

Lore

Orbeck hails from Vinheim home of the Vinheim Dragon School, a school of sorcery. Orbeck was a member of this school until he was banished when he became undead. Despite his fascination for magic this was not the reason he was admitted in the dragon school. He was only admitted when he accepted to become an assassin for the school. This is further proven by the black robe he wears which is only used by members of the school that are tasked with more covert work.

Not even the Dragon School possesses such a long-lost scroll. What would the Xanthous Scholars say, with their ridiculous headwear. They would simply slaver over this find." Giving him Logan's Scroll "Oh, my! You've made quite the discovery! This is a scroll of the prodigious Big Hat Logan. A masterful sorcerer, long missed in Vinheim. And now, we have his scroll, right here in my very hands." Giving him Crystal Scroll "Unfathomable. This is a crystal sorcery, created by the pale dragon, thought only to exist in legend... I am ever grateful to you. This is truly sublime. I am afraid this is a debt I cannot repay, only... I will be sure to unravel it for you. Just a moment." After giving him 2 Scrolls and purchasing 5 sorceries "Oh, I have something for you. You're a fine sorcerer now, no mistake. You should have something to prove it. Go on. If I'm giving something away, you'd better well take it." After purchasing Aural Decoy, Farron Flashsword, Pestilent Mercury and Spook "How do you like gimmicks, friend? This is a sign, a cipher employed by sorcerers who use quietude to their advantage. With this, you can be sure to tell friend from foe from your very first encounter. It's a very old practice at this point... but one that you deserve to know." Talk "In Vinheim, I was an assassin. A sorcerer only in name, a killer for hire. What a fool I was, thinking one day I would learn real sorceries. When I became Undead, I was exiled from the school. But here I am, now, exploring the depths of sorcery. If this where the Dragon School, you'd be... well, overtly despised, and banished from the place. Well I suppose it's time I packed my bag. I'd hate to see our agreement end sourly. Notes

• To recruit Orbeck, the player must have a minimum of 10 Intelligence and find him in the Road of Sacrifices.
  • Players who do not wish to spend that many souls, may equip the Scholar Ring (Intelligence+5) to satisfy this requirement.
• Once Orbeck has relocated to Firelink Shrine, he will ask the player to bring scrolls as a deal for him to stay. If the player defeats any four bosses before bringing Orbeck a scroll, he will hold true to his promise and depart for the rest of the game.
• If Orbeck has been recruited, Yuria of Londor will tell the player in dialogue to "deal with him". The player can either kill Orbeck and loot his ashes or wait until he leaves to the Grand Archives and loot them from his body there. Either way, give the ashes to Yuria to receive the Morion Blade.
• Once the player has purchased any four sorceries, Orbeck will gift them the Young Dragon Ring.
• After purchasing Aural Decoy, Farron Flashsword, Spook, and Pestilent Mercury, Orbeck will reward the player with the "Silent Ally" gesture, along with the Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring. Buying these spells will ensure they acquire all gifts from him in only four purchases.
