The Murakumo is a curved greatsword in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Giant curved sword forged using special methods in an Eastern land.
This unparalleled weapon cuts like a Katana but is heavier than a Nata machete. Requires extreme strength, dexterity, and stamina to wield.

The Murakumo is the heaviest Curved Greatsword available, as well as having the highest Strength requirement in the category. However, it has the highest potential damage output among the Curved Greatswords. The Murakumo is good at staggering opponents, even those with high Poise. The first swing has rather high starting lag that can be punished, but once combos start going, the Murakumo has a fairly quick swing speed for its size.

The Murakumo's moveset is versatile in open areas, but suffers in cramped quarters due to the lack of a thrusting attack.

A diagonal slice from right to left, nicking the ground. Further input a horizontal cut left to right.

Strong Attack
A horizontal strike that carries its user forward with decent lag. Further input makes the user spin and execute a similar attack in a reverse motion.

Same as one-handed weak attack, high starting lag.
Two-handed
Strong Attack
Runs forward and does strong vertical slash, moderate starting lag. Additional input yields a twirling slash.
Jump Attack A jump then a vertical swing, moderate starting lag.
Running Attack Jumps then a horizontal swing, moderate starting lag.
Rolling Attack Spins then does a vertical slash, minor starting lag.

Scaling Percentage Values[]

The following chart lists the scaling percentages when this weapon is fully upgraded. Be advised that:

  • Scaling letters are not an accurate indicator of how a weapon scales, players should look at the percentage scaling of a weapon.
  • Magic and Enchanted upgrade paths reduce Physical Damage while adding Magic Damage, splitting damage between two types. Strength and Dexterity scaling is drastically reduced while adding Intelligence scaling.
  • Divine and Occult upgrade paths reduce Physical Damage while adding Magic Damage, splitting damage between two types. Strength and Dexterity scaling is drastically reduced while adding Faith scaling. Divine adds Divine Auxiliary and Occult adds Occult Auxiliary secondary damage types.
  • Fire, Chaos, and Lightning upgrade paths remove all stat scaling and splits damage between two types. Chaos path adds Humanity Scaling.
  • Raw upgrade path caps at Weapon Level 10 while drastically reducing physical damage scaling and adding slightly more base damage.
  • Crystal upgrade path dramatically increases the base damage of weapons while rendering them unable to be repaired.
  • For PvE purposes all weapons will be better on the Standard Upgrade path to +15. This is because the Split Damage of elementally infused weapons is not added together. The values are reduced separately when going through enemy defenses leading to less damage in practice due to the values of each damage type being smaller.
