Magic Barrier (魔法防護) is a miracle in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Miracle of Bishop Havel the Rock. Cover body in defensive magic coating.
This coating greatly boosts magic defense, assisting warriors who must face the magic which Bishop Havel countered so proficiently.

Availability[]

Magic Barrier is sold by Reah of Thorolund for 6,000 souls after rescuing her from the Tomb of the Giants.

General information[]

Magic Barrier applies a defensive buff to the caster that lasts for 40 seconds and reduces magic damage taken by 30%.[1] The damage reduction applies to all offensive sorceries, offensive miracles, and any weapon that deals magic damage. Magic Barrier counts as a personal buff, so it is impossible to use other buffs (such as Power Within, Flash Sweat, etc.) while it is in effect.

Great Magic Barrier is an upgrade over Magic Barrier, boasting higher magic resistance in exchange for fewer casts.

In-Game Description

In-Game Description

A miracle conveyed by Havel, the “rock-like”, generalized for the convenience of the Way of White. Covers the whole body in a strong magical protective membrane.
This membrane greatly improves defense against magical attributes, and gives simple warriors the means against magic, as the priests of Havel should all have.

Trivia[]

  • The English localization of the Magic Barrier describes Havel as a "bishop". However, a more accurate translation of "ハベルの司祭がすべからくそうであるような" would be "as the priests of Havel should all be". This implies a fact confirmed in the japanese description of Great Magic Barrier, that Havel himself wasn't a bishop but rather had clerics that followed him in the same way Gwyndolin, Velka and Gwynevere had priests and maidens, implying that Havel too was a god.
  • The English localization neglects to mention that this spell is a simpler variant of Great Magic Barrier, made so that the clerics of the Way of White can more easily fight against sorcerers.
