A Lord Soul (王のソウル) is a unique soul item in Dark Souls. They are used to satiate the Lordvessel in the Firelink Altar, and gain access to the Kiln of the First Flame.

Soul of Gravelord Nito, first of the dead. This Lord Soul was discovered at the dawn of the Age of Fire.

Gravelord Nito administers the death of all manner of beings. The power of his soul is so great that it satiates the Lordvessel, despite the fact that much of its energy has already been offered to death.

In-Game Description

Soul of the Bed of Chaos and the mother of all demons. This Lord Soul was found at the dawn of the Age of Fire.

The Witch of Izalith attempted to duplicate the First Flame from a soul, but instead created a distorted being of chaos and fire. Its power formed a bed of life which would become the source of all demons, and is more than enough to satiate the Lordvessel.

Soul of the Chaos Seedbed, mother of demons. One of the souls of the Kings found at the beginning of the Age of Fire.

The Witch attempted to create a First Flame from her soul, however, giving rise to a beast deformed by the Flames of the Chaos: This is the seedbed of all demons, whose power is worthy of filling the King's Vessel.

Availability

Gravelord Nito and the Bed of Chaos both drop a Lord Soul upon their defeat.

Lore

The Lord Souls are four incredibly powerful souls that were found within the First Flame during the Age of Ancients. These souls were found by four beings:

Nito, First of the Dead used his Lord Soul to release a miasma of death during the Dragon War.

The Witch of Izalith used her soul to weave great firestorms. When the First Flame started to fade, the Witch attempted to recreate it using her Lord Soul. The attempt (at first) failed, and she, as well as many of Izalith's inhabitants, were corrupted by this, the inhabitants were transformed into demons, while the Witch herself was turned into the Bed of Chaos, a bed of life from which all demons came from. Despite this, she did indeed eventually succeed in regards to the Chaos Flame and gaining control over it.

Gwyn, Lord of Sunlight used his soul to weave lightning that he wielded against the dragons. Gwyn would later split his soul, giving fragments of it to worthy servants, the most notable being as Seath the Scaleless and the Four Kings.

The Furtive Pygmy split their soul into countless fragments, becoming the ancestor of the human race.^{[citation needed]} This was in the hope that one day, the Dark Lord would be born among humanity, someone who could end the Age of Fire and usher in the Age of Dark.
