Lingering Flame is a pyromancy in Dark Souls II.

In-Game Description

One of the pyromancies devised by Straid, the great mage of ancient Olaphis. Release a static fireball that explodes when foes draw near.
Straid was an oddly gifted mage, well-versed in both sorceries and pyromancies, but his curious temperament never allowed him to settle down in one place for very long.

General information[]

When cast, releases a small orb of flame, which travels a small distance before remaining static. Should the orb come into contact with anything before becoming static, it will disperse, causing little damage. However, once an enemy approaches a static orb, it will explode, inflicting a great deal of damage. The orb remains static for ten seconds before disappearing.

This spell can be cast several times in succession, allowing for multiple mines to be set up, usually between 4-5. The more mines are set up, the more damage inflicted and with the max amount of mines you can set up before they start fading, one can deal some of the highest damage possible in game if all mines are detonated at once. A good time to use this strategy is during the Executioner's Chariot boss fight, where you can set up the mines in the corridor before the chariot passes by, safely reducing the boss's health to the point where it is too weak to fully leap across the chasm present in the area, leaving it entirely defenseless.
