Hollow Mages are enemies in Dark Souls II.

In-Game Description

Hollow Drangleic mages encountered in Brightstone Cove Tseldora. Whether they were there before the town's destruction or moved in afterward is unknown; what is painfully clear is that they have no intention of allowing visitors to leave the ruins alive.[1]

Location[]

Hollow Mages are found in Brightstone Cove Tseldora. They appear throughout the whole area between the Chapel Threshold and the Lower Brightstone Cove bonfires, either in open spaces or inside of houses.

Description[]

Small undead sorcerers with endless, but very slow, Homing Soul Arrows. If the player gets too close, they attack with a spell similar to Soul Spear Barrage.

Lore[]

These mages are related to the Necromancers. As described by their Set, the ones in this group that did not practice necromancy were all male[2]. While these individuals were generally sorcerers, they carry Skeptic's Spice and Rouge Water, thus implying that either they belonged to a religious group, or that they also used some Miracles.

While the women went under the service of the Iron King[3], it's unknown what these sorcerers did or where they went.

Centuries later, these sorcerers would reach Tseldora (whether before or after the city was ruined by the spiders is unknown[3])

Theory[]

  • Given these Mages white robe and their use of sorceries, it's possible that these sorcerers had some king of worship in Seath, and that they went to Tseldora to study the land now ruled by their idol.

Strategy[]

They are often too far away to be locked on to, making Sorceries, Miracles or Pyromancies difficult to aim. The alternative is using manual targeting, but the player should remain cautious of the other enemies in the area that may attack them while they are distracted.

Bows and arrows are a good alternative, but the player must make sure to aim and shoot quickly, lest they retaliate. If that's the case, the player should hide behind a wall and wait until they finish attacking. They usually unleash 6~7 Homing Soul Arrows per attack, and continue shooting even if the player has already hidden.
