The Halberd is a halberd in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Long-hilted weapon mixing spear and axe is difficult to handle, requiring both strength and dexterity. The Halberd has two elementary attacks: spear-like thrusting and large sweeping swings. However, one false swing and the wielder is left wide open.

Availability[]

The Halberd can be obtained in the Undead Parish to the left of the front doors at the Undead Church on a corpse. A Crystal Halberd can be found early in Anor Londo, obtained off a Mimic.

Characteristics[]

The Halberd combines ranged thrust attacks with wide sweeps. However, the vertical hit-boxes of its thrust attacks are small, sometimes going under tall bosses if not aimed right. Halberd is a "Quality" Scaling weapons meaning that it scales near equally off of Strength and Dexterity and will be its best at 27 Strength and 40 Dexterity while two-handed.

This weapon deals Thrust and can be boosted by the Leo Ring for an increase to its Counter Damage Bonus. Like all Halberds, if an attack doesn't connect with an enemy, the user will stumble and seem to not be able to handle the weight. If the hit connects, the stumble animation does not come into play and the user moves as normal making this weapon capable of gaining Sweet Spot damage bonus.

Notes[]

  • The Crystal Halberd found in Anor Londo can be quite a boon for the area and its boss, as it starts out stronger than the Halberd +10, even without any upgrades, and will only get stronger when upgraded with Titanite Chunks. It is best used at the time that it is found, when it will be the most powerful (unless the player has obtained the Very Large Ember early).

Attack Description
One-handed
Weak Attack
A thrust forward. Handy in tight corridors, but with a correspondingly small hitbox. If thrusting into nothing, the wielder will stagger forward momentarily.
One-handed
Strong Attack
A wild horizontal swing. Great hitbox, but slow; it will stagger the wielder momentarily if he/she does not hit a target, causing high ending lag.
Two-handed
Weak Attack
Similar to one-handed weak attack, but more damage.
Two-handed
Strong Attack
Wielder swings the halberd around him/her twice. Very useful for its coverage and damage, but moderate starting lag and ending lag.
Jump Attack Jumps and swings the halberd horizontally, Good hitbox, low starting lag, some ending lag.
Running Attack Short sprint followed by vertical chop. Good damage, speed, and vertical reach, but has some ending lag. The vertical chop is instantly executed if the player is slowed by being on poor footing.
Rolling Attack Horizontal chop. Good damage and speed, but poor tracking.
Kick Standard kick.

A wild horizontal swing similar to the one-handed strong attack.

Scaling Percentage Values[]

The following chart lists the scaling percentages when this weapon is fully upgraded. Be advised that:

  • Scaling letters are not an accurate indicator of how a weapon scales, players should look at the percentage scaling of a weapon.
  • Magic and Enchanted upgrade paths reduce Physical Damage while adding Magic Damage, splitting damage between two types. Strength and Dexterity scaling is drastically reduced while adding Intelligence scaling.
  • Divine and Occult upgrade paths reduce Physical Damage while adding Magic Damage, splitting damage between two types. Strength and Dexterity scaling is drastically reduced while adding Faith scaling. Divine adds Divine Auxiliary and Occult adds Occult Auxiliary secondary damage types.
  • Fire, Chaos, and Lightning upgrade paths remove all stat scaling and splits damage between two types. Chaos path adds Humanity Scaling.
  • Raw upgrade path caps at Weapon Level 10 while drastically reducing physical damage scaling and adding slightly more base damage.
  • Crystal upgrade path dramatically increases the base damage of weapons while rendering them unable to be repaired.
  • For PvE purposes all weapons will be better on the Standard Upgrade path to +15. This is because the Split Damage of elementally infused weapons is not added together. The values are reduced separately when going through enemy defenses leading to less damage in practice due to the values of each damage type being smaller.
