The Greatsword of Judgment is a soul-transposed greatsword in Dark Souls III.
In-Game Description
- A ceremonial sword, held in Pontiff Sulyvahn's left hand, representing the judgment of the moon, but with magic far closer to sorcery than any existing lunar power. Its dark blue hues, deeper than the darkest moon, reflect sorcerer Sulyvahn's true nature.
- Skill: Stance of Judgment
Assume stance to unleash dark magic. Use normal attack for a lunging thrust, and strong attack to emit side-sweeping wave.
Availability[]
Transpose the Soul of Pontiff Sulyvahn with Ludleth of Courland for 3,000 souls.
Characteristics[]
The Greatsword of Judgment is a peculiar greatsword that is useful for builds that level Intelligence, Strength and Dexterity, but not beyond 40 for any. Because its damage scales with all three stats, it is capable of dealing split damage, making it a good weapon for fighting shield-equipped opponents.
Utilizing the Bastard Sword moveset, the Greatsword of Judgment specializes in horizontal and vertical swings and as a result can be lacking in reach. However, these wide swings also give it strong area coverage, allowing it to clear crowds with the horizontal swings and hit overhead targets with the vertical swings. Use of a weak attack from the skill's stance also gives it the ability to perform a thrust attack, covering the weakness in its standard moveset.
While it cannot be buffed by spells or resins, Stance of Judgment allows the player to temporarily increase the Magic damage it deals for a time after performing a powerful attack. While this buff adds less damage and persists for a shorter duration than a properly built Crystal Magic Weapon or Darkmoon Blade, the buff is integrated into the special attacks from the stance, and thus can be activated quickly in the midst of battle while also inflicting strong damage against a foe with the attack itself. This gives the Stance of Judgment an advantage over standard buffs due to the speed with which it can be applied, lack of requirement of an Attunement slot, and comparatively low FP cost. As well, this buff is applied on top of existing Magic damage, which is otherwise not possible in any case outside of buffing a Drakeblood Greatsword.
Due to the high FP cost of the skill, investment into Attunement and equipping an off-hand Simple-infused weapon/shield may be useful.
