The Greatsword is an ultra greatsword in Dark Souls II.
In-Game Description
- A straight sword with a very long blade. One of few Ultra Greatswords.
- No human was intended to wield a sword of this weight or destructiveness.
- Only a few famed warriors have ever wielded this great blade, for it challenges the very limits of human ability.
Availability[]
- Dropped by Royal Guards in the Forest of Fallen Giants, Drangleic Castle and Undead Crypt.
- In a chest on the second floor of a building toward the top of No-man's Wharf, across from Lonesome Gavlan.
- Dropped by the Greatsword Phantom in Huntsman's Copse (upgraded to +3).
- Sold by Vengarl of Forossa in the Shaded Woods for 4,700 souls (5,000 souls in Scholar of the First Sin).
Characteristics[]
The Greatsword is a fairly powerful weapon for a strength build. Unfortunately, because the weapon weighs in at 22.0 units, it is also exceptionally heavy, making it difficult to use effectively at lower levels.
With broad swipes and immense power, its strong attacks can knock down multiple enemies with ease. It also can stagger opponents easily because of its very high poise damage, making it an exceptional weapon for crowd control situations. However, this weapon swings slowly and suffers from a large stamina cost for each swing, as is common of all ultra greatswords.
Because of its higher STR scaling bonus and heavy weight, this weapon is ideal for STR-based builds.

Swings the blade from right to left, able to hit enemies behind and to the left of the player. Further input swings the blade back to the right, again able to hit enemies behind and to the left of the player. |

Slams the blade vertically down on the ground in a wheel-like motion, knocking enemies down. Further input slams the blade down behind the player, enabling targeting of opponents positioned behind the player. |
| Two-handed Weak Attack |
A slow but solid downwards slam with the blade. Further input uppercuts the blade vertically, slamming the blade behind the player. |
| Two-handed Strong Attack |
The player spins clockwise, delivering a giant blow from left to right and knocking back opponents. Second input sweeps the blade horizontally back to the left. |
| Jump Attack | Heavy overhead vertical slash. From higher elevations, this attack will knock most enemies down. |
