Great Magic Barrier (大魔法防護) is a miracle in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Miracle of Bishop Havel the Rock. Cover body in powerful def. magic coating.
Havel the Rock, an old battlefield compatriot of Lord Gwyn, was the sworn enemy of Seath the Scaleless. He despised magic, and made certain to devise means of counteraction.

Availability[]

Found in Ash Lake, inside the hollow tree. When entering the tree normally, the spell will be unreachable. To reach it, the player must walk on the branch outside (the one with a Basilisk on it) and stop halfway, turn the camera, and fall down onto a lower branch.

General Information[]

Great Magic Barrier reduces all magic damage taken by 90% for its duration. Great Magic Barrier is considered a personal buff and thus cannot be used in conjunction with other personal buffs, such as Power Within, Flash Sweat, or even Green Blossoms etc.

In-Game Description

「岩のような」ハベルの司祭に伝えられる奇跡 全身を強い魔法防護の膜で覆う
グウィン王の古い戦友であり 白竜シースの敵対者でもあったハベルは 魔法を嫌い、それに対する手段も怠らなかった

In-Game Description

Miracle taught to the priests of Havel, the “rock-like”. It covers the performer's entire body with a powerful membrane that protects against magic.
Havel, King Gwyn's old comrade-in-arms, was also an enemy of the white dragon Seath. For this reason, he hated magic and never neglected to take measures to counter it.

Trivia[]

  • The English localization of the Great Magic Barrier describes Havel as a "bishop". However, a more accurate translation of「岩のような」ハベルの司祭に伝えられる奇跡 would be "A miracle taught to priests of Havel the Rock". This confirms the fact that Havel himself wasn't a bishop but rather had clerics that followed him in the same way Gwyndolin, Velka and Gwynevere had priests and maidens, implying that Havel too was a god.
