The Giant Stone Axe is a greataxe in Dark Souls II.

In-Game Description

Greataxe forged from the Last Giant's soul.

This weapon resembles a primitive stone tool, but is quite powerful owing to its immense size.

The Giants were eventually defeated by an unnamed hero, but alas, victory came all too late.

Availability

Trade the Soul of the Last Giant and 1,500 souls to Straid of Olaphis.

Characteristics

The Giant Stone Axe is one of the most damaging Greataxes due to its excellent Strength scaling at higher upgrade levels. In turn, it is the heaviest Greataxe, as well as one of the shortest.

The sweetspot for maximum damage covers nearly the entire length of the weapon. This means that the Giant Stone Axe's damage output will be more consistent than longer Greataxes without having to worry about proper spacing, although the weapon's short reach will make actually hitting enemies harder.

The unupgraded Giant Stone Axe is an extremely underwhelming weapon, with low base damage and scaling, but it quickly improves as it is upgraded. This, combined with its various drawbacks, makes the Giant Stone Axe far less accessible in the early game than it might initially seem. While this can be circumvented through careful stat allocation and knowing how to obtain the required materials, it may be prudent to save the weapon for later into a playthrough when its requirements are less cumbersome. For more accessible early game Greataxes, players may want to consider the standard Greataxe, or the unorthodox Bandit Greataxe, as a bridging weapon until later.
