Giant Hound Rats are enemies in Dark Souls III.
Description[]
Significantly larger versions of the regular Hound Rats, these giant vermin are stronger and more aggressive.
Locations[]
- Undead Settlement
- Found in the sewage system, near the locked door that leads to Irina's cell. The area is covered in mist, reducing visibility. Upon defeat, it will drop the Bloodbite Ring.
- Catacombs of Carthus
- Found on a corner of the big room with several Hound Rats and Skeleton Wheels, after exiting the stairs with the second Skeleton Boulder.
- Smouldering Lake
- Found below a hole on the floor, making for an easy plunging attack. However, doing so will leave the player exposed to a big ambush of lesser Hound Rats afterward.
- Irithyll Dungeon
- Two are found in a cell after exiting the tunnel on the wall of the sewage system and before the courtyard with several Jailers patrolling.
Strategy[]
Giant Hound Rats are often accompanied by several smaller rats and will attempt to distract the player whilst they attack them from behind. Their bites cause rapid Poison buildup, but most of their attacks can be avoid by maneuvering behind them. Despite their intimidating appearance, they are actually less threatening than they appear due to their slow speed and vitality.
