Gauntlets

Gauntlets are a type of weapon in Dark Souls.

Overview

Gauntlets have by far the shortest range of all the weapon types in Dark Souls, which means they require getting up close and personal with the enemy. They make up for their limited range with their speed. They can attack extremely fast, being able to create long chains of relentless attacks as long as the player's stamina holds out. Gauntlets are one of the few weapon classes that have the ability to parry when used in the left hand.

With a gauntlet weapon (including fists) equipped in the right hand, the kick animation is changed - rather than a heel kick, the character strikes with the knee. This does not seem to affect the function or range of the kick.

Gauntlets have the unique ability that their weak attack can not be deflected. This can allow players to use the rapid combos inherent to gauntlets against enemies with shields, quickly draining their stamina and breaking their block. In PvP this tactic is ill-advised, as it creates a predictable string of attacks that the opponent will easily be able to parry.

Wearing Gauntlets of Thorns will increase the damage dealt by gauntlets.
