The Frayed Blade (Japanese: 綻び刀, Hepburn: Hokorobitō, lit. 'Eroded Sword') is a soul-transposed katana in Dark Souls III: The Ringed City.
In-Game Description
- A dragon weapon symbolizing Darkeater Midir.
- The once-exquisite blade is now stained black, and frayed at the hilt. Without its sheath, it will soon crumble into nothing.
- Skill: Hold
Assume a holding stance in which a normal attack sends a shockwave along the earth, and a strong attack commences a series of slashes.
Availability[]
Obtained by transposing the Soul of Darkeater Midir with Ludleth of Courland for 5,000 souls.
Characteristics[]
With a staggering requirement of 40 Dexterity, the Frayed Blade is one of the most difficult weapons to wield in the entire game. However, it has many characteristics that solidify its position as one of the best in its class.
With its innate Dark damage, the Frayed Blade is capable of chipping down opponents through shields, something that most katanas have trouble with. Furthermore, its skill provides it with unique offensive potential, as the shockwave can be used to hit opponents at range or catch them as they try to roll away, while the slash combo can inflict tremendous amounts of Bleed build-up on an unprotected target or powerful stamina damage if blocked. In the hands of an aggressive player, the Frayed Blade is truly a force to be reckoned with.
However, it is also one of the heaviest katanas in the game, and has very low durability much like the Washing Pole. Care should be taken when using this weapon, and carrying Repair Powder may be useful on extended forays.
