Single player[edit | edit source]
Due to Fire Surge having to be channeled to sustain damage on a target, it will rapidly drain FP from the player's pool. As the FP drains much faster than the pyromancy actually hits, it is advisable to use this pyromancy in short bursts, or to catch an opponent off-guard, then follow up with a more robust pyromancy, such as Great Combustion or Chaos Bed Vestiges. It can also be used at close range to finish off opponents at low health.
It is able to stagger enemies, but is not recommended for use against heavily armed, or larger enemies. Additionally, it will always stun enemies that have unique fire damage stagger animations, such as Corpse Grubs, Starved Hounds and the Pus of Man, for the full duration. This makes it an effective tool for taking down these enemies when paired with more powerful means of attack.
Online gameplay[edit | edit source]
Because of its quick casting time and the ability to immediately cancel out of it with a roll, this spell can be useful for inflicting small but quick chip damage. In particular, it is ideal for destroying Tears of Denial users immediately upon proccing it, especially after a successful critical attack, as it is virtually impossible to avoid taking damage from this spell even by immediately rolling.
