Falling Bolt is a skill in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

Hold swordspear high in the air to summon fierce lightning that descends upon distant foes.

Description[]

The player charges the spear with Lightning. After roughly 2 seconds, they will thrust the spear skyward, calling down a bolt of lightning on the targeted foe; this bolt deals 200% of the weapon's Attack Rating as Lightning damage. The spear will then be buffed with 80 Lightning damage for 35 seconds.

Usage[]

Single player[]

Due to the long windup of this skill, it is best used to begin a fight with the skill rather than trying to cast it in the midst of battle. Against an unaware enemy, they will take tremendous damage from the bolt, weakening them to be more easily cleaned up by the spear's attacks, moreso with the inclusion of the buff. After striking a foe with the bolt, the buff can be used to more easily defeat subsequent enemies when fighting a group.

Online gameplay[]

Unless the enemy player is distracted or otherwise unaware, hitting them with the bolt can be extremely unreliable. However, it is still a good way to begin an engagement as the buff will augment the spear's attack power and make it more effective in combat.

The upward thrust can be parried, oddly enough, though should an enemy be close enough to do so they will usually simply attack instead, as the skill does not provide a great amount of Hyper Armor.
