Endurance is a stat in Dark Souls.

Description

Investing in Endurance increases maximum stamina, equipment load, and bleed resistance.

Stamina

Stamina Icon Stamina is represented by the green bar on the top left corner of the screen. One large chunk of the bar is approximately 28.33 stamina. Actions such as dashing and attacking reduce stamina which after a brief pause begins regenerating.  If the player runs out of stamina, they temporarily cannot attack or dash.

If a character is blocking and a blow exceeds the amount of stamina needed to absorb the damage, that character is then staggered, left wide open, and takes the excess damage. This mechanic is dependent on stability.

Stamina is capped at 160, which is reached at level 40 endurance; further levels do not increase stamina. Stamina can also be increased by the Ring of Favor and Protection, even if the 40 endurance cap has been reached.

Stamina Regeneration Rate

Stamina has a base regeneration rate for all players, regardless of soul level or stats: 45 stamina per second. The regeneration rate can be increased passively while wearing the Mask of the Child, Grass Crest Shield, Cloranthy Ring, or by consuming a Green Blossom. All of these passives can be stacked.

Regeneration rate is lowered while the player has his/her guard up. Wearing heavy armor pieces reduces this regeneration rate by 1 stamina per second. If the player is heavily burdened (50% or greater equipment), then he will take a more significant penalty of 10 stamina per second.

Equipment Load

Weight Equipment load determines how much equipment the player can equip before being affected by movement penalties. A character's equipment load is 40 + Endurance. The Mask of the Father, Havel's Ring, and Ring of Favor and Protection also passively raise equipment load.

Movement penalties begin to occur once you surpass 25% of your equipment load. It is the game's attempt to have a parameter on armor, such as the strength and dexterity parameters that it has on its weapons. If your equipment load is 60, once your worn equipment passes 15, you will begin to suffer movement penalties such as walking slower, exhausting stamina quicker when running, and slow clumsy rolls.
