Eleonora is a unique axe in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

A strange weapon found among malformed inhabitants of the Profaned Capital.
The Profaned Flame was triggered by the curse of these women, relatives of a certain oracle, but despite their culpability, they went on living without any cares.
Skill: Feast Bell
Hold up axe and wave to emit a solemn chime to temporarily make weapons lacerating, and to restore HP for each hit.

Availability[]

Found in the Profaned Capital. Guaranteed drop from the already awoken Monstrosity of Sin found on the lower level of the ruined chapel that lies in the toxic swamp.

Characteristics[]

At first glance, Eleonora is a rather unimpressive weapon. It possesses high base damage, but its mediocre scaling and inability to be infused means that this advantage will be diminished as players continue to level up their stats. At higher levels, Eleonora’s AR will be more comparable to that of a straight sword, rather than the standard axes that it shares its weight class and slower moveset with. This disparity is especially apparent when compared to a Heavy Millwood Battle Axe, which shares its weight of 6.5 with Eleonora, but significantly out performs in regards to AR.

Eleonora isn’t without advantages however. Players willing to overlook Eleonora’s below average damage may find value in its superior range when compared to most of the other axes, mitigating a common shortcoming of the Axe weapon class. More notable though is Eleonora’s weapon art, Feast Bell buffs Eleonora with a powerful health drain on hit, in addition to potent bleed buildup. While active, Eleonora becomes a surprisingly effective weapon against large groups of enemies, or against enemies with large health pools, especially if said enemies are prone to bleed.

These benefits give an otherwise outclassed weapon an interesting niche in builds or strategies centered around HP regen and sustainability.

Trivia[]

  • Prior to the Regulation 1.22 patch in November 2016, this weapon did not properly inflict Bleed after activating Feast Bell.
  • The Japanese item description uses the word "priest" instead of "oracle". Japanese nouns are generally not gendered, meaning it could be referring to a priest or priestess.
