The East-West Shield is a medium shield in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

A wooden kite shaped shield. It is decorated with the ancient symbol of a double-headed eagle, painted yellow.

Wooden shields are lighter than metal shields, but with lower physical damage reduction, and reduced shield stability.

Availability

The East-West Shield is the starting shield for the Cleric class. It can also be purchased from the Undead Male Merchant in Undead Burg for 400 souls.

Characteristics

The East-West Shield is ultimately not viable after the very beginning of the game, and is the worst medium shield for blocking physical attacks, with paltry stability and damage reduction. Even amongst wooden shields, the Wooden Shield is significantly better. The East-West Shield has medium deflection and fast parry speed. When upgraded to Crystal, the durability is 16.

Resistance Defense

Along with Physical and Elemental damage reduction, weapons also have hidden stats that reduce the amount of status build-up while blocking.
