The Dark Pyromancy Flame is a pyromancy flame in Dark Souls II.
In-Game Description
- A flame catalyst used by pyromancers. Pyromancers rouse this flame to produce various flame arts.
- The flame rewards those with a thirst for power. The more Hollowed one is, the stronger its effect is.
- Effect: Spell power scales with Hollowing.
Availability[]
- Found in the lower levels of The Gutter, on a corpse in a pot. It is located outside the first building that can be accessed by jumping from near the Upper Gutter bonfire.
Characteristics[]
The Dark Pyromancy Flame possesses several attributes which the normal flame does not: it has superior scaling, durability and deals greater base Fire damage.
However, the most interesting aspect of this flame is the fact that it scales with the level of hollowing the player has. When used in human form, the Dark Pyromancy Flame receives a damage penalty which almost nullifies its attack rating, and through this, the damage dealt by pyromancies. Inversely, dying multiple times will result in a far stronger flame, significantly boosting damage output.
Hollowing directly affects the standard scaling this weapon possesses, it losing 10% for each hollowing level under the standard max of 10 despite the menu implying differently.
Notes[]
- Hollowing greater than 10 (50% of base max HP) does not result in greater amounts of damage, even upon reaching a Sin status of Wretch, which enables the maximum hollow state to reach 5% of the player's total health.
- If the player enters the Brotherhood of Blood or Blue Sentinels' arena while hollowed, the flame will keep its scaling from hollowing even though the player is considered human. This is the only way to get the full damage of the flame without the HP penalty.
