The Dark Ember (暗い種火) is an Ember in Dark Souls.
In-Game Description
- Ember required for weapon ascension. The church long hid the forbidden black ember, and no living blacksmith knows of it.
- Ascends +5 divine weapon to occult weapon. (occult weapons can be reinforced to +5)
- Occult weapons were used to hunt the gods, and are effective against their following and kin.
Availability[]
Pillaged off the petrified corpse of a blacksmith in the Painted World of Ariamis, on the roof of the Annex structure, guarded by 2 Engorged Red Hollows. The Annex Key is normally required to obtain it, although it's possible to reach it without the Annex Key by jumping onto the bridge with Velka's Rapier from a nearby ledge.

Given to Andre of Astora to ascend +5 divine weapons down the occult path, allowing for occult weapon reinforcement to +5 (the highest).

In-Game Description
- Ember needed to evolve weapons. This dark ember is a taboo kept hidden by the church for a long time. No blacksmith alive knows anything about it.
- Allows to evolve Holy Weapons into Heretical Weapons (reinforceable up to +5).
- Heretical weapons are weapons used to hunt gods and therefore, they are effective against the clan of the gods and their followers.
