Crystal Magic Weapon (結晶魔法の武器) is a Sorcery in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Sorcery boosted by the knowledge Logan acquired at the Regal Archives. High magic + crystallization: right weapon.

Logan's trials were successful, and the crystal medium facilitated a stronger bond between weapon and soul.

Availability

Sold by Big Hat Logan in The Duke's Archives for 20,000 souls after he has been freed the second time.

General information

Crystal Magic Weapon may only be used on enchantable weapons, which are those that are upgraded down the Standard, Raw, or Crystal paths, as well as a limited amount of exceptions.

This spell adds a flat amount of magic attack power to the equipped melee weapon equal to ×1.4 the magic adjust of the equipped catalyst and lasts for a duration of one minute. As with other sorcery-based weapon buffs, Crystal Magic Weapon does not receive damage benefits from the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring, but does receive duration-lengthening benefits of the Lingering Dragoncrest Ring.

As the buff reaches closer to the end of its duration, the number of crystal present on the weapon diminishes. When all the crystals have disappeared the buff expires.

Overview

Crystal Magic Weapon is the strongest sorcery-based weapon augmentation in the game. This makes it the magical enchantment of choice for PvP.

While Crystal Magic Weapon is not as strong as the miracle-based weapon buffs Darkmoon Blade and Sunlight Blade, it does hold several key advantages over them. It has a lower Intelligence requirement than the Faith requirement for either Darkmoon Blade or Sunlight Blade, and it has more casts than either of them. Finally, while Crystal Magic Weapon benefits from the Lingering Dragoncrest Ring, Darkmoon Blade and Sunlight Blade do not.

While Darkmoon Blade and Sunlight Blade scale better with a Talisman's magic adjust, the Tin Crystallization Catalyst is able to provide higher magic adjust than any other talisman, making the Crystal Magic Weapon comparatively more powerful for the same amount of casts. However, if at +1 or higher in the Blade of the Darkmoon covenant, the Darkmoon Blade augment gains even higher Faith scaling. Which allows it to outperform Crystal Magic Weapon, even when using the Tin Crystallization Catalyst at max Intelligence (assuming an equivalent level of Faith and use of the Darkmoon Talisman, the strongest available at high Faith).
