- "The Darkmoon Knights were once led by my elder brother, the Dark Sun Gwyndolin. But he was stricken by illness, and leadership of the knights fell to me."
- — Company Captain Yorshka
Company Captain Yorshka is a character in Dark Souls III. Found in the Anor Londo section of Irithyll of the Boreal Valley, atop the Prison Tower that can be reached via an invisible bridge from the rotating elevator, she is the leader of the Blade of the Darkmoon covenant.
She is voiced by Martha Mackintosh.
Location[]
She is located in Anor Londo, dwelling alone atop the Prison Tower that rises high above the Church of Yorshka. It can be accessed from the rotating elevator located after the Darkmoon Tomb in Anor Londo. The tower can be reached regardless of the position of the elevator. The tower is visible in the distance and requires a step of faith onto open air to reveal an invisible bridge that leads to it.
Description[]
Captain Yorshka is the leader of the Darkmoon Blades and accepts the player into their ranks if they have learned the Darkmoon Loyalty gesture.
She is a tall and slim woman, with pale skin, blue eyes with scale-like markings around them, and dark green hair. She also has two pairs of pointy ears, with the larger pair having long and rigid lobes, as well as two long lobe-like tentacles hanging from her upper neck. She wears a white dress and a veil over her hair. She is barefoot and appears to have a tail not unlike that of a dragon. Yorshka talks in an older form of English, and lives in a tower secluded from the rest of Irithyll of the Boreal Valley.
Lore[]

The sacred chime of Yorshka.
Yorshka is the younger sister of Dark Sun Gwyndolin,[1][2] with whom she shares only her mother, as her brother is Gwyn's lastborn.[3] She claims to have little knowledge of the world, to the point of only knowing crows and dragons as beings capable of flight,[4] implying that she was raised in isolation, perhaps in the Painted World of Ariamis. Furthermore, as of arriving at Irithyll, the girl didn't even have a name.[2]
At some point, after Gwyndolin had become the "Chief Deity" of the Anor Londo clan,[5] Yorshka reached Irithyll of the Boreal Valley, the city her brother had built on the ruins of Anor Londo to house the Irithyllians, hybrids between the race of the gods of Anor Londo and humans.[6] Here she was welcomed by Gwyndolin who formed a relationship of deep affection with his newfound sister, giving her a sacred chime and even the name Yorshka.[2] Eventually a church was built in her name inside Irithyll—exactly where the Painted World of Ariamis was once kept—[7] in which she was venerated as a goddess by the humans who worked in the city.[8]

The spear of Yorshka's Church.
After Gwyndolin was "stricken by illness" and forced to retreat to the old cathedral of Anor Londo, her brother entrusted Yorshka with command of the covenant of the Blades of the Darkmoon. The girl thus assumed leadership the company, reciting her brother's ritual phrases by heart;[9][10] and guided its knights' vigil over those who would link the First Flame,[11] with the Blades shielding them from those who would oppose the will of the Gods. Per tradition, Yorshka continued to accept proofs of the knights' accomplished duty and rewarded them with the miracles of Gwyndolin, herself ignorant of their vengeful connotations.[12][13]
Amidst the power vacuum left by Gwyndolin's absence, Sulyvahn would take advantage of the fragile situation, declaring himself Pontiff and becoming the tyrant of Irithyll. He managed to imprison Yorshka on the tower of her own church, isolating her from the world and holding her hostage.[1][14][15] Over time, the Darkmoon would lose every one of its followers, being integrated into the ranks of Sulyvahn's knights, killed, or exiled, leaving Yorshka as the head of a covenant with no knights and only its legacy to preserve.[16] Yorshka would have remained alone on the tower, unable to hear from her brother,[1] with only the chime that he had given her to console her in her solitude.[2] Despite her imprisonment, the humans of Irithyll, now enslaved by Pontiff Sulyvahn and subjected to his experiments, would continue to pray to the goddess in secret, worshipping the sacred spears that were enchanted with a soporific spell, trying to find comfort and rest from their condition, even at the cost of hitting themselves with these weapons.[8]
Theories[]
- It is possible to theorize that Yorshka comes from the Painted World of Ariamis.
- She comes from such an isolated place that she only knows about dragons and crows as flying creatures.[4] It is noteworthy that crows and dragons were presumably the only aerial creatures in that Painted World.[17]
- The Painting Guardian Set can be found in her church,[7] which was built in the same location where the Painted World was kept in ancient Anor Londo.
- Her appearance, given her likely origins in the Painted World, make it highly plausible that she has some relation to Crossbreed Priscilla, the only woman known to possess draconic traits within the Painted World.[18] In addition, she bore no name just like the other daughter of Priscilla, until Gwyndolin gifted her with one.[19]

Trivia[]
- Yorshka's outfit, described as a Saint's set, is available for the player to wear in removed content. According to the item description, Yorshka was originally imprisoned in a dungeon (the tower where she is found, according to dialogue after advancing her covenant to level 2 or higher) and her outfit, originally pure white, was stained ash grey from years of incarceration.
- Another article of removed content, Gwyndolin's Finger, could be presumably obtained upon defeating Aldrich. It could be given to Yorshka for additional dialogue and a reward, presumably Darkmoon Ring based on the dialogue. According to its item description, she is a crossbreed.[20]
