The Chaos Blade is a katana in Dark Souls III.
In-Game Description
- A cursed sword of unknown origin bearing uncanny streaks on its blade.
- Attacks also damage its wielder.
- The sword is not unlike a thing misshapen, granted life, but never welcome in this world. In other words, chaos itself.
- Skill: Hold
Assume a holding stance to rapidly execute a lunging slash with normal attack, or a deflecting parry with strong attack.
Availability[]
Found in the Untended Graves, uphill the left path before entering the remains of Firelink Shrine, on the same spot where the Sword Master was encountered in the Cemetery of Ash.
Characteristics[]
The Chaos Blade provides excellent base damage, Dexterity scaling and reach, emphasizing the natural strengths of the katana class. It provides this with modest stat requirements and a standard katana moveset. At high levels of dexterity its physical damage is only outperformed by the Frayed Blade and the buffed Bloodlust.
However, the Chaos Blade damages the wielder for slightly more than 1% of their maximum health every time they hit an opponent. This damage can kill the wielder and is not affected by the wielder's defenses or the damage dealt to the target, and will occur even if the target did not take damage from the strike, such as if they blocked or rolled through it. In longer fights, the extra damage taken on top of the opponent's own damage can result in otherwise avoidable deaths if the wielder doesn't manage their health carefully. Equipment such as the Ring of the Evil Eye, Sun Princess Ring, or an off-hand weapon infused with a Blessed Gem, can help with off-setting this damage. Additionally, the weapon cannot be buffed or infused in any way, meaning some specialized builds will be able to gain more benefit from using other katanas.
