Channelers are enemies in Dark Souls.

Description[]

They appear slightly larger than the player, donning protective robes of peculiar design and utilizing a mystical Trident. Channelers are sorcerers who cast powerful Soul Arrows from afar. They can teleport away from harm and are invulnerable during the animation.

Channelers perform a unique martial arts dance that stirs nearby allies into a bloodthirsty frenzy,[1] greatly increasing their and their allies' damage output. Affected creatures display an aura of blue magic lines to indicate the active buff.

Locations[]

  • In the Undead Parish church, just before the Bell Gargoyles, on a ledge surrounded by sword-wielding Hollows. Does not respawn.
  • In the Depths above the Gaping Dragon boss entrance. This Channeler will buff the Gaping Dragon if he is not eliminated first, making the fight considerably harder. Does not respawn.
  • Three in The Duke's Archives. The first is located after the first lift. The other two are positioned in consecutive levels, above the bonfire on the balcony.

Strategy[]

If the player is equipped with a low damage weapon, it is advisable to wait, lure and stay away from their melee attack, and then hit them. Players might want to keep their shield raised as the Channeler's Trident can cover a surprising distance. If equipped with a higher damage weapon, such as the Gravelord Sword, rush the Channelers before they can attack.

At range, players can seek cover from the Channeler's soul arrow and either hit them with a ranged attack or advance and use the previous strategy.

If the Channeler has frenzied nearby enemies, players might want to focus on killing these first before targeting the Channeler, so they don't interfere.

The Channeler in the Undead Parish church can be sniped with a bow with impunity if far enough away.

Lore[]

"Snatchers", as they were often called, are servants of Seath the Scaleless. They traveled far in search of suitable human specimens for Seath's experiments.[2] The design on their helms allows Seath to supervise from afar.[3]
