Blight Town

Blighttown is a location in Dark Souls.

Adjacent locations[]

Description[]

Blighttown is a rather lengthy area that can be accessed through either the Depths or the Valley of Drakes. The upper parts consist of interconnecting bridges and scaffolding. The bottom portion of the area is a poisonous swamp.

Many enemies in the area can inflict a Poison of their own, while Blowdart Snipers are able to deal Toxic from a great distance.

Plot[]

Blighttown can be accessed from the Depths by way of a gate that is opened by the Blighttown Key, or through a cave at one end of Valley of Drakes. Crossing Blighttown is necessary to ring the second Bell of Awakening, found past Chaos Witch Quelaag in Quelaag's Domain. Several NPCs visit Blighttown as part of their respective questlines, with Quelana of Izalith and Shiva of the East both acting as merchants.

Bonfires[]

There are two bonfires in this area. One is located close to the entrance from the Depths, on the bridge that acts as a structural support for the great stone wall. It is most often accessed when entering Blighttown through the Depths.

The other bonfire is located just inside a tunnel accessed through the swamp at the bottom of Blighttown; near the area between the two paths leading to the Depths and Valley of Drakes. This bonfire is usually accessed first by players using the Blighttown shortcut connecting the Valley of Drakes.

Quelaag's Domain[]

Even though Chaos Witch Quelaag is located in Quelaag's Domain, she is considered to be the boss of Blighttown as well, and slaying her will prevent any future summoning and invading in Blighttown. The entrance to Quelaag's Domain can be found on the face of the large mound covered in spider webs.

Strategies[]

  • A minimum of 81 poison resistance is required to avoid becoming toxic in one shot from a blowdart.
  • Care should be taken when using weapons with attacks that move the player, such as curved swords, as the additional movement may lead to unintended falls.
  • There are multiple bridges in the upper area that will shift and move while the player walks on them. Caution should be used while on these.
  • The Rusted Iron Ring will negate the slowing effect of the poison, allowing players to traverse the area considerably faster.
    • Standard rolls are not affected by the slowing effect and can be used to speed up travel through the swamp. However, the Dark Wood Grain Ring's special roll can only be used in slowing terrain if the Rusted Iron Ring is also worn.
  • If contracted, the swamp's Poison will deal 4 damage per second for 3 minutes.
    • Poison will not continue to build up once afflicted. As such, poisoned players can trek through the swamp without further penalty, aside from the reduced movement speed, until the poison wears off or is cured.
  • It is possible to access Blighttown immediately after arriving in Firelink Shrine if the Master Key is chosen as the starting gift, by going through the locked door between New Londo Ruins and Valley of Drakes.
    • This path can also be used for direct access to Blighttown's swamp without the key by using the elevator between Darkroot Basin and Valley of Drakes.
