The Blacksteel Katana is a katana in Dark Souls II.

In-Game Description

Blacksteel katana wielded by Alonne Knights. One of the sturdiest types of katana, preferred by masters of the quick-draw.

In the heyday of his land, the Old Iron King fancied entertaining dubious and eccentric guests from faraway lands. Most of them were charlatans, but amongst the riff-raff were true masters of authentic and refined arts.

Dropped by Alonne Knights in the Iron Keep.

Characteristics

The Blacksteel Katana's initial strong attacks (1-handed and 2-handed) are very similar to the Iaito from Dark Souls, which are then followed up with a thrusting attack. It is also able to chain together its 2-handed weak attacks into strong attacks, which can chain into yet another strong attack, stunning most low-Poise enemies and racking up damage quickly.

This is a very potent weapon, much like the Chaos Blade, for pure-Dexterity builds, as it scales purely with Dexterity unless it is infused with elemental damage. It should be noted that after a few upgrades are pumped into it, the Dexterity scaling bonus changes from A to S.

Notes

• When used by the Alonne Knights, the Blacksteel Katana causes bleed build-up. However, the variant available to the player has no bleed effect prior to infusion. Similarly the Captains have a lightning-infused version, and the player-obtainable version has no lightning element without infusion.
• Ironically, it boasts a slightly-higher bleed effect reduction than most other katanas do, despite not being able to inflict bleed damage when wielded by the player.
• The 2H heavy attacks can be performed faster after Rolling and Backstep attacks, as well as after guard breaks and a single 2H light attack. This can make the Blacksteel Katana perform combos easily.

Two-handed Strong Attack	Quickdraw slash, further input yields a thrusting attack. Initially slower than one-handed quickdraw, but if performed with two-handed slashes beforehand, the slash will come out quicker than usual.

Trivia

• A reskinned Blacksteel Katana was available as a promotional weapon for the Crown of the Old Iron King DLC for thirteen days after the patch on August 26, 2014. It was offered again as a promotion for for a week after the Scholar of the First Sin patch released on February 5, 2015. The Blacksteel Katana, along with the other reskinned weapons that were released for the other DLCs, were all obtained from the unique chest in the basement of the mansion in Majula.
