- "Drat, you're worse than my reckless daughter. Don't spend your whole life in transit, you hear?"
- — Blacksmith Lenigrast
Blacksmith Lenigrast (Japanese: 鍛冶屋レニガッツ, Hepburn: Kajiya Renigattsu) is a character and blacksmith in Dark Souls II.
He is voiced by Michael Kilgarriff.
Location[]
He is encountered in Majula, moping just outside of a little shack in front of the village's bonfire. After opening up the locked door, he'll move inside and start working again, remaining in his smithy for the rest of the game.
Plot[]
When the player first arrives to Majula, his workshop is locked up, and he is found just outside, lamenting the loss of his key and asking help in finding it. Away from his tools, he won't be able to upgrade or repair any equipment, nor will he be able to sell any wares. In order to get access to his services, players must locate Merchant Hag Melentia in the Forest of Fallen Giants, and purchase the key in her possession for 1,000 souls.
After doing this and unlocking the door to the smithy, the player will simply need to rest at a bonfire, and Lenigrast will begin his work as usual. He can reinforce weapons, repair all manner of equipment, and sell up to ten Titanite Shards to get them started, as well as a wide variety of simple weapons, each of different types. However, he won't be able to infuse any weapons, as it requires the use of a Dull Ember, an art that has been lost to modern blacksmiths. To do that, players will have to find Steady Hand McDuff and give him the Ember instead.
Upon spending 8,000 souls reinforcing equipment, Lenigrast will gift the player with the Blacksmith's Hammer.
Lore[]
Lenigrast is a blacksmith from the merchant city of Volgen,[1] and he is the father of Stone Trader Chloanne, whom he refers to as "reckless" due to her constant travelling. Worried for his daughter's safety[1] after she left home, he began journeying himself to look for her, and along the way became afflicted with the Undead Curse. While his body shows most signs of the Curse, appearing just like an Hollow, he is still rather sound of mind, holding memories of both his job and his daughter.
He set up shop in a vacant house in Majula, taking all of his equipment inside to begin work right away.[2] Before he knew it, however, he found himself locked outside the shack, with the metal door's key nowhere in sight, stolen by Melentia,[3] the resident traveling merchant, without him noticing. Out of options, he remains outside, waiting for someone to help him. That someone is the Bearer of the Curse, who buys the key from the shady merchant and allows Lenigrast back inside.
Despite his dislike of aimless travelers, he will offer his services and advice to his Undead benefactor. He will also be quite glad to see his dear daughter in one piece should she move to Majula, content with keeping an eye from afar, though she, on the other end, doesn't recognize him,[1] possibly due to his Hollowing body. He doesn't seem to notice that her current obliviousness is a result of her loss of memory,[1] as she is likely affected by the Curse herself, though she doesn't show it physically. Lenigrast will also warn the Bearer of the Curse to stay clear of Laddersmith Gilligan whenever he finds his way to the hamlet, as he is quite the well-known scoundrel back in Volgen, often stirring up trouble with his greedy disposition.

Bugs[]
There is a bug that occurs when the player attempts to attack Lenigrast while he is still sitting down outside of his workshop. Instead of defending himself, he will continue to sit still. This can be fixed by resting at a bonfire and returning to him.
Trivia[]
- Lenigrast is similar in appearance to the Burrow King depicted on one of the Archstones in Demon's Souls.
