The Black Knight Greataxe is a greataxe in Dark Souls II.

In-Game Description

Greataxe wielded by knights who served a lord of light in a long-forgotten age.

Even after their flesh was charred by flame, they remained as strong as ever, and stood watch, challenging visitors to their land.

Availability

• It can be found in a metal chest in the Iron Keep.
• Semi-common drop by the Kobolds found outside Aldia's Keep.

Characteristics

The Black Knight Greataxe is an interesting weapon, as it has the potential to be very powerful, yet can be quite difficult to use.

Like all Black Knight weapons, this Greataxe inflicts both physical and fire damage, and scales decently with both. However, what sets this apart from the other Black Knight equipment is its raw damage potential; it can inflict an incredible amount of damage due to its high base damage, even with its mediocre scaling at base level. Upon upgrading the weapon, the strength scaling improves heavily, going from a C all the way to an A at +5, allowing it to be a formidable weapon.

However, this weapon has two fatal drawbacks. The first drawback is that the weapon must, similarly to most Halberds, hit with the head of the axe to deal full damage. Hitting an opponent with the handle, results in underwhelming damage being dealt to them. This, coupled with its cumbersome moveset and high weight, can make the weapon very unreliable to use. Proper spacing is paramount if players wish to make the most out of this weapon, which can be a challenge in itself, especially in PvP.

It upgrades with Twinkling Titanite. Due to the huge gap between physical and fire damage, infusing this weapon with fire is a wise choice.
