Black Flame is a pyromancy in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

Pyromancy discovered by grave wardens after High Lord Wolnir fell to the Abyss.
Creates a giant, black flame in hand.
Black flames born from the Abyss bear no shadow. They are said to be the impenetrable fires of humanity.

Sold by Karla for 10,000 souls once she has been given the Grave Warden Pyromancy Tome.

Creates a dark explosion from the palm of the caster's hand, inflicting 2.4 times the Spell Buff of the catalyst as Dark damage. If a target is only caught in the flames lingering after the initial explosion, they will take only 2.2 times the Spell Buff of the catalyst as Dark damage.

Single player[]

As it is one of only three Dark Pyromancies in the game, Black Flame is extremely useful for bringing another damage type to the table. Its fast casting speed makes it a force to be reckoned with, though being a melee range spell hampers its utility somewhat. Like all other Combustion-type spells, it benefits from being cast from a Pyromancer's Parting Flame for the extra melee-range damage.

Online gameplay[]

In PvP, this spell is a favorite, as it inflicts extremely high stamina damage if blocked, enough to threaten even greatshields with a guard break. This is extremely useful for dispatching opposing players with ripostes, particularly as an invader who has to fight multiple opponents and needs to even the odds in an efficient manner.
